about
This song came to us Nov. 26 2023 soon after we arrived home from our first ever live shows at the Sidepony Express Music Festival in Bisbee, AZ and visiting my family for Thanksgiving in Louisville, Kentucky. Our inner twang was awakened and ready to be set free. Michael was fiddling around with a chord progression and I started singing some lyrics. We binged the Apple TV series, Lessons in Chemistry, and were moved by the the idea of true love and loss. Michael remembered the "tent revival scene" then boom! The wheels were in motion and it evolved into this beauty.
Since I had been singing a lot, my voice was warm and relaxed. I originally wanted to sound like Mick Jagger, but Michael encouraged me to look deeper and sweeter for more of a Dolly Parton inner wisdom. I really just wanted to sound like me. With Michael's coaching, I surprised myself when I heard back that recording from our DIY vocal booth (aka the closet). I was shocked at the way I sounded, but for the first time in a good way- like a wise sage. I was suprised that I actually liked my vocal and that this actually came from me. Hope you enjoy the latest step of our journey.
lyrics
A friend of mine
Once came to me
With a broken heart
And a dream
She was lookin
For the answer
She was worried
She’d never find
True love
She said
How do you find
Your long lost
Sweetheart
When you’re
Drownin in a storm
I said
Keep on livin
Your best damn life
And find the love
To keep you warm
Inside
You’ll find
The best part
If you look for good
You’ll see it
And somehow
You will know
That’s all
You’ll ever need.
It took me a while
To find
My sweetheart
Unexpected
But sure to keep
You’ll never know
Until you find
What you are
Looking for
The road
It seems so steep
You gotta climb
To find
The best part
Of your soul
Keep going
When it takes a toll
Each step finds you
Where you’re
Meant to be
The treasure lies
In your own hearts
That’s where
It all starts
Bringing the best part
Riding the wave
Into home
Riding the wave
Into home
Riding the wave
Into home
Riding that wave
Into home
